About Lisa:
Lisa Potts, MBA, CPDT
has vast experience teaching a variety of classes including Family Dog, Canine Good Citizen®, Rally Obedience, Agility and Flyball classes. Lisa has over 15 years of competitive dog training experience. She excels in training the versatile dog, and has trained dogs in obedience, rally obedience, agility, flyball, tracking, herding and conformation. She has shown dogs in the Working, Herding, Non-Sporting, Hound and Toy groups, and has three of the most versatile Toy and Minitaure Poodles in the history of the breed:
To date, Lisa has earned over 250 titles / certifications with her dogs. She is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, is a certified dog trainer (CPDT), and is a well-known licensed AKC / UKC / CPE / DOCNA / ASCA / UKI agility judge, a UKC rally obedience judge, a CGC evaluator, and an apprentice Flyball judge. She also offers training seminars and has been a speaker at the APDT Conference .
With fourteen years of experience teaching puppy kindergarten, basic obedience, family dog training, agility, flyball and rally obedience classes, she excels in making the difficult seem easy to understand. She is a positive reinforcement based trainer, who has taken masters level courses in animal learning at the John G. Shedd Aquarium in Chicago. Lisa utilizes clicker training with her own dogs, and incorporates operant conditioning / clicker training into her classes. She is also a published author in the realm of dog training. Lisa lives in Springfield, IL with her husband Derek, their parrots PJ and Minju, and their 3 dogs.
Bird Training:
As bird owners since January 2007, we have learned a few things about training birds and would love to help you train yours! We have trained a variety of behaviors with our little PJ. She will return to her cage when asked, she will step onto a scale to be weighed, and she lets me trim her nails without all the drama. We have also curbed her biting habit and reduced her fear of unfamiliar stimulus. These helpful behaviors were developed using clicker training, just as we train the dogs.
